Judging by the Cover Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Hello Beautiful Book Blog.
Anyone can play along, just do the following:
- Search the web for the cutest cover you come across, ideally an unreleased book
- Don’t read the synopsis
- Try to guess what the book is about
- Read the synopsis and see how close you came
- Make sure to link Hello Beautiful Book Blog as your host! ♥ 🙂
Post in the comments the link to your own Judging by the Cover Tuesday post or share your cover in the comments below if you do not have a blog. Thanks! 🙂
This is a new post I will be doing every Tuesday. Basically, I will be scoring the web for the cutest cover I come across from a book I have never read and that is not yet released. I will only pick by the cover. I will then try to guess what the story is going to be about and finally read the blurb to see how close I got to the actual story.
I thought it would be a fun play on “Too Cute Tuesday” and “Don’t judge a book by its cover”.
So, without further ado, here is the first ever Judging by the Cover Tuesday!
Okay, first impressions. It definitely has to be a romance novel. We’ve got a pair of heels and a pair of Converse type shoes, so I’m thinking a rich girl spending the summer in Paris meets a grunge/rocker style boy and a romance ensues. Her family doesn’t approve so she sneaks around going to his shows and he helps her break out of her shell. I’m thinking the characters are going to be teenagers, maybe 17ish?
Let’s see how I did.
One Paris Summer by Denise Grover Swank
Release date: June 7, 2016
Blurb from Amazon:
Most teens dream of visiting the City of Lights, but it feels more like a nightmare for Sophie Brooks. She and her brother are sent to Paris to spend the summer with their father, who left home a year ago without any explanation. As if his sudden abandonment weren’t betrayal enough, he’s about to remarry, and they’re expected to play nice with his soon-to-be wife and stepdaughter. The stepdaughter, Camille, agrees to show them around the city, but she makes it clear that she will do everything in her power to make Sophie miserable.
Sophie could deal with all the pain and humiliation if only she could practice piano. Her dream is to become a pianist, and she was supposed to spend the summer preparing for a scholarship competition. Even though her father moved to Paris to pursue his own dream, he clearly doesn’t support hers. His promise to provide her with a piano goes unfulfilled.
Still, no one is immune to Paris’s charm. After a few encounters with a gorgeous French boy, Sophie finds herself warming to the city, particularly when she discovers that he can help her practice piano. There’s just one hitch—he’s a friend of Camille’s, and Camille hates Sophie. While the summer Sophie dreaded promises to become best summer of her life, one person could ruin it all.
Alright, not horrible. I didn’t see the evil step-mother/step-sister thing coming though. Aaaand, he doesn’t appear to be a rock star either.
I give myself 2/5 hearts. ♥♥
I’ve never read anything by Denise Grover Swank before, but I do have a book of hers on my TBR list. This cover just stuck out when I saw it. I thought it was adorable and I love the colors! Not only is it a cute cover the synopsis sounds good as well. Looks like I found a winner on this first Judging by the Cover Tuesday!
